The Island of Cozumel is known for the charm of its turquoise blue sea and the tranquility that its atmosphere transmits. It is a land of warm climate, where you can enjoy spectacular views and sunsets.

The island measures about 48 km from north to south and 14.8 km from east to west, making it the third largest island in Mexico.

From the Mayan era you can still find ruins and artifacts on the island, some monuments can be seen by tourists and give the island a mystical and historical note.

The first Mayan population on the beautiful Island of Cozumel were the Itzaes, around 2000 years ago, in the Classic Period (300 to 900 a.C.), those who created Chi Chen Itza, one of the Modern Wonders of the World.

By 1200 Cozumel was an important link for commerce within Central America.

 

Cozumel Island was a Sacred Santuary for the Mayans, honoring especially the Mother Goddess Ix´chel. The name Cozumel comes from the mayan words "Cuzaam luumil", meaning land of the swallows. This been the favorite Bird of the Goddess.

The Island is surrounded by beautiful turquoise water and white sandy beaches, extensive coral reefs and some iron shores.

      

It is a snorkeling and diving paradise, having the second largest barrier reef in the world.
